(Different anon) what’s so bad about a heavily socialised state

I...wasn't scolding you. I'm not sure where you got that impression. If anything I was *agreeing* with you. Mostly I was just venting. Because I know none of this is actually going to happen. Trump will be on the ballot in November, in defiance of all common sense. When he shouldn't have been allowed on the ballot the *first* time around. He might even win. And if he does, his administration and alt-right fandom will do everything they can to turn the US into a fascist state. All while American progressives consistently fail to act, just to retain the moral high ground.

Denmark eliminated first past the post voting in 1920 and the Grand Compromise is generally held to begin in 1933.

You've given examples in your own videos. In "We Go High, They Go Low" you lamented how Obama refused bend the rules to get around conservatives efforts to forestall Merrick Garland's appointment. In that same video you state that "an action has no intrinsic value wholly separate from its outcome. A Kentucky clerk breaking the law by refusing to sign a legal gay marriage license is wrong, and a California clerk breaking the law by signing an illegal gay marriage license is right." The January 6th insurrection to try and strongarm the government into reelecting Trump for a second term, was wrong. The general strikes that led to the "Great Compromise" and the adoption of the Nordic Model in Northern Europe, were right. We need to be willing to use the kinds of tactics conservatives do *literally all the time* to achieve their political aims. We need to be entirely results oriented (or at least almost) instead of getting hung up on procedure. It's the only way we'll create systemic change in this country.

"Do all progressives have the answers but they're too busy beefing on Twitter to act on them?" Yes! Because the answer is not complicated. The answer to all of your questions is for us to be willing to engage in dirty politics to achieve our goals. Stop being obsessed with holding the moral high ground, and start beating Republicans at their own game.

“I know examples of socialists becoming major parties through mobilizing and mass demonstration”
Did that ever happen in a country that had a “first past the post” electoral system? Because third parties almost never become major players in such a system. Many large third parties in the United States have been able to take control of or at least become a major faction in one of the two main parties in the past.

Many SJP chapters and quite a few other groups say it necessary for Palestinian liberation and worth celebrating.
I don’t fully blame the perpetrators given what Palestinians have been put through, but it was needlessly cruel and absolutely counterproductive for their cause.

Diffanon with only a bit of a tangentially related question, can a terrorism ever be justified, or does a thing being justified preclude it from being a terrorism?
-
Anonymous commented:
Should leftists try to take control of the Democratic Party? Of course it would be extremely difficult and those who currently control it would resist as much as they can. But it seems like taking control of a party would be easier than taking control of a country.

“ literally no one has said to not vote Biden”
Have you been on ANY social media platform with a significant leftist presence? TONS of leftists (and alleged leftists) are saying don’t vote Biden, and some are even saying to vote for trump!
-
Anonymous commented:
It's one thing if BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people are willingly sacrificing their own human rights for Palestinian liberation, but, like, do we honestly think Trump will be any better on Palestine than Biden?? Like, do we really think Trump is gonna advocate for a free Palestine? The best I see him doing is pulling a big chunk of funding from Israel and redirecting it to his America First Education project or something. The argument not to vote for Biden is all about not endorsing or enabling his genocidal bloodlust, but isn't that the "it feels like voting for the lesser is a moral compromise" you talked about in I Hate Mondays? Has the philosophy changed now that Biden is worse than we thought? Has he crossed the line into being worse than Trump?
-
Anonymous commented:
Supposedly, a system of interlocking accountability(as in, there's a service, that for the most part is tasked with keeping the cops honest). And also the argument is that it's still better than if no one is responsible for the protection of people.
-
Anonymous commented:
(Diff anon) the general argument I hear is that there's always some dipshit, who's stronger than the people around and who'd be willing to hurt people to reach his goals. So there needs to be a centralized force, that has monopoly on violence. I dunno what to say to that
