Blaming conservatism on stupidity is the cowards excuse; conservatives support a fascist, racist, rapist Biff Tannen type because he does something for them emotionally, not cuz of a low intelligence quotient

in response to The root of the problem is that U.S elections are little more than popularity contests that CAN be swayed by an "obvious meme", but that's beside the point. Hilary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016 because of online misinformation, and smear campaigns. It's not right to use the same tactics *against* Trump and his VP in 2024, just because it's "punching up" when WE do it.

    Ian replied:

you keep reverting to abstracts because it lets you avoid saying "I think couchfucker jokes could affect the election" which is a) a lie, you don't actually believe that, and b) FUCKING HILARIOUS.

like I genuinely don't think you could form a coherent moral philosophy out of your own putative position here. you believe some Republicans are so gullible that memes can change their votes. ok. so we shouldn't meme cuz it would mislead them. also you know Republicans are gonna mislead them non-stop for the entire campaign cycle. and they're too fucking gullible to be reasoned out of it. so your idea of "democracy" is to just hand a chunk of voters over to the liars and let them believe Hillary Clinton is head of a pedo ring and Kamala Harris is a communist pretending to be Black and Obama was born in Nigeria and was friends with one of the Weathermen? that "democracy" means "the people are too fucking ignorant to govern but you have to let them follow the loudest liar in the room"?

like, if I genuinely believed that's how the world works, I would argue that, if there's NO HOPE of them believing the truth, I would rather they believe harmless lies about a guy fucking a sofa than the white supremacist ones, cuz those have body counts.

but, of course, I don't actually believe that's how the world works and neither do you. find a better hill to die on, fam.

in response to Should we purge tankies from our ranks?

    Ian replied:

this reminds me of something someone told me: you know how, for a while there, ever six months someone on Reddit would announce a general strike, but when the date came around nothing happened? apparently, each time this happened, the strike's subreddit would devolve into people arguing about what the organizational structure of the strike should be. who were the voting members, how would consensus be reached, how would responsibilities be delegated? no outreach to existing unions, no efforts to organize a strike fund, no communication with previous strikers to learn from their efforts, no contact with lifelong activists. all that had to wait 'til they figured out who was in charge of what, who were the moderators, etc. and they never got that sorted in time for the strike.
